Christmas Rant

Merry Christmas!

I haven't been writing much since school was over. I really needed a break from the computer and I resorted to only sending iPhone photos.

The holiday vacation has been fantastic so far. I traveled to San Diego and now I am in Las Vegas. The down side is that I ate too much junk yesterday and today. I know that's typical holiday stress, but I am trying really hard not to lose my triathlon edge that I've been building up since October.

It's tough to visit houses that have children because you always find the worst food here. Different chocolates, cookies, chips, candies that I simply don't surround myself with any longer. But after seeing everyone eat some and being in the holiday spirit -- I let myself enjoy a little bit. Which turns into a lot o' bit.

Another down side: I am sick with a cold. I have a stuffy nose, sore throat, and chapped lips. I think I may even have a mild fever.

My relatives' house in Henderson (suburb on the mountain overlooking the strip) is huge and fantastic, but also one of the coldest houses I have ever stayed at. Not to mention the dry mountain air.

I am not a sissy--it gets cold in NYC too. But here I am miserable, wrapped in blankets and extra layers of clothing. At night I am so cold, I feel like I am camping in Maine or something.

I think a lot of traveling, poor diet, and sudden changes in weather/elevation have taken a toll on my body. It's tired.

So now I am lying on the couch, with the laptop on my lap while the whole entire family went out to the strip to have dinner, drinks, and gamble. Not only do I not feel well, but I am not even old enough to participate. I'm not 21 yet. That doesn't usually (er, ever) stop me in New York, but I am more careful in other cities because I feel like it's just a lot more strict. For example, in NYC they won't ever card you at dinner. If you want a drink at dinner... you're good. But in California, if you ask for a beer at Outback Steakhouse the pussy waiter goes and calls the manager who asks for your i.d. and spends 20 minutes trying to calculate the birthday/age. I can only imagine that in Las Vegas they see so many young people try to make their way into the casinos that they're really on the lookout.

It's okay. I'm actually not feeling like I am missing out on that much. New York has the best bars and clubs anyway. Plus, I told myself I would not have a drop of alcohol the whole holiday vacation -- which I haven't so far! I am proud of myself. I might even keep this up until I actually turn 21. It's just way too many extra calories.

Okay, well I suppose that's enough Christmas Rant.

I fly back to NYC on Saturday. That will be tiring, but when I get home I am sleeping all of Sunday. Then I'll get back into my normal routine on Monday.

And I'll get back to normal blogging too :)

Happy Holidays!

I had a friend who was from NY in college who was one of the few people I knew who didn't have a fake ID. Couldn't understand that until I finally made a trip to NYC and figured out that he simply hadn't needed one before. He was always quick to point out that NY didn't have that many more accidents or anything, and argued drinking age should be lowered around the country.
