It's a long story, but I was supposed to fly out to Vegas this morning and one thing led to another -- and now I am having crab cakes at my uncle's house in Philly. Instead of flying to Vegas I am going straight to San Diego, California.
It doesn't really change my plans much because we were going to drive to San Diego from Vegas anyway, then return to Vegas for Christmas. But I just hate being in travel limbo -- that place between your home and your destination. You have not really left and you have not really arrived either.
I had a fabulous dinner tonight and I am already wanted the holidays to be over because I don't want to think about how many fabulous dinners I will be having over the next 10-15 days. I am really going to try hard to not lose my fabulous triathlon muscles that I have been building since October.
It's funny how the idea of Christmas changes so quickly from being the most anticipated holiday of the entire year to actually being a semi-dreadful "vacation." Instead of expecting chocolate cake and tons of presents I now shudder at all the weight I might gain, the annoying relatives and the lack of presents I will receive. As I get older I have noticed that for both Christmas and my birthday I always receive money. (Which is nice, don't get me wrong, but what ever happened to wrapping paper?!)
UPDATE: Having a delayed flight might actually be a good thing sometimes! I got to catch up with my good friend Walt Ribeiro tonight who I hadn't seen in months! We reminisced about the days when he had 200 Twitter followers and I had 800. Now we're both in the thousands. He's doing great things in the music tech scene, you should check out his Ustream show. That kid's gonna do something big someday!
Always nice to catch up with old friends :)
Well-- I gotta bounce. Gotta wake up at 4am to go back to the airport!
Ciao
