After the Race

I have just woken up from a nap after running 4 miles in Central Park this morning. I have never run a colder race in my life. The race was part of the New York Road Runners Gridiron Classic and it is one of the races you must run in order to qualify for the 2011 NYC Marathon.

It started at 9am this morning and although it was sunny, the temperature was a freezing 17 degrees Fahrenheit with the winds up to 10MPH.

The race was fun, though. There were a ton more people than I ever expected and everyone was very pumped for the Super Bowl. At one point in the race there was even a divider for two separate lanes, one for Colts fans and the other for Saints fans. I got in the Saints lane :) (The results on NYRR site said that there were 66% Saints fans and 34% Colts fans in the race).

My stats were the following:

Overall Place: 3,117
Gender place: 1,072
Age Place: 107 (not bad?)
Finish time: 37:07 (I was shooting for 30min... so... not terrible, but I need to work harder!)
Pace per mile: 9:16

Unless you are aiming to cross the finish line first, for my money any run is a good run. It is always good to aim for PRs (personal records) but just get out there!

I would so love to run the NY Marathon, but being a Canadian and no qualifing time ... it might only be a dream.

Keep up the running!
